Mousom Dhakal is a right-hand batter who bats down the order, but he is picked almost entirely for his spin bowling. Reliable sources genuinely disagree on what type of spinner he is: ESPNcricinfo and the ICC list his bowling style as right-arm offbreak, while earlier Nepali-language cricket media covering his 2022 domestic breakout described him repeatedly as a leg-spinner. NPL Season 3 auction commentary in 2026 nicknamed him the "mystery spinner" — a tag commentators use for bowlers who mix deliveries or aren't easily typecast.

Dhakal started playing cricket at age 14 at the Star Cricket Academy in Rupandehi, where former Nepal spinner Shakti Gauchan first coached him. He later trained at the Tirupati Cricket Academy, also in Rupandehi, where his bowling caught the attention of former Nepal cricketer Basant Regmi during the COVID-19 lockdown period. Regmi connected him with the Armed Police Force (APF) Club, where he met his cricketing mentor, veteran all-rounder Sharad Vesawkar.

His breakout moment came at the Prime Minister's Cup national one-day tournament (played before December 2022), where he was named Emerging Player of the Tournament for APF, the eventual champions. Across six matches and 38 overs, he took 15 wickets while conceding 185 runs with two maidens — a genuinely eye-catching return that fast-tracked his path to the national team.

Dhakal has represented the Armed Police Force (APF) Club in Nepal's National Cricket League structure since his 2022 breakout, and has also been listed with Bhairahawa Gladiators and Pokhara Avengers in provincial/franchise domestic listings.

Dhakal made his senior international bow for Nepal in the 2023 Nepal T20I Tri-Nation Series against Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates. He made his T20I debut on 18 October 2023 against the UAE at Mulpani Cricket Stadium (T20I cap 44), and his last T20I on 19 October 2023 against Hong Kong — picking up 1 wicket in Nepal's six-wicket win.

He has played only these two T20Is to date. Earlier that year, he made his List A debut for Nepal A on 19 July 2023 against UAE A at Colombo during the 2023 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup, and played his most recent List A match on 5 April 2024 against Ireland A at Kirtipur.

In August 2023, Dhakal was named in Nepal's 17-player squad for the 2023 Asia Cup in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. He did not feature in Nepal's playing XI in the tournament opener against Pakistan and remains uncapped in ODIs.

Dhakal's NPL journey has taken him between two franchises across three seasons:

NPL 2024 (Season 1): Signed by Karnali Yaks for NPR 1,000,000 (Category B), won via a lucky draw after two teams matched the maximum bid. He featured in Karnali Yaks' inaugural squad alongside marquee player Sompal Kami and international recruit Shikhar Dhawan, and the Yaks reached the play-offs (Qualifier 2) before losing to Janakpur Bolts.

NPL 2025 (Season 2): Released by Karnali Yaks ahead of the season and went unsold in the August 2025 mini-auction — a rare setback that isn't often mentioned in shorter player profiles.

NPL 2026 (Season 3): Bounced back by signing with Chitwan Rhinos for NPR 300,000 (Category C) in the August 2026 auction, where auction-day commentary referred to him as the "mystery spinner" being picked up by the Rhinos.

Mousom Dhakal has not held a captaincy role at the international, franchise, or domestic level based on publicly available records.

July 2025 — Released by Karnali Yaks ahead of NPL Season 2.
