CAN says ICC board meeting talks for NPL 2026 are close, but not confirmed

October 09, 2026

The Cricket Association of Nepal says talks on hosting an International Cricket Council board meeting in Nepal during the 2026 Nepal Premier League are well advanced, but the meeting has not been confirmed.

CAN vice-president Roshan Singh told reporters on 8 October that only a few points remain before an official announcement. “The discussions to hold the ICC board meeting in Nepal in connection with the NPL have reached a certain stage. A few things are still pending, and official information will be announced soon,” he said, according to OnlineKhabar.

In a separate phone interview with Himal Press the same day, Singh was more cautious. He said there was a possibility the meeting would be held in Kathmandu, that talks were still under way, and that the date had not been fixed. He described it as a regular ICC meeting that CAN is trying to place during the league so officials can see the ground, the organization, and Nepal’s wider cricket setup. The ICC has not announced any board meeting in Nepal.

Singh said the gathering, if it goes ahead, could come toward the end of the tournament, when only a few matches are left. He also said a visit by ICC representatives would help Nepali cricket and tourism. “We want to create an environment where, after seeing the cricket atmosphere here, the ICC’s perception of Nepal also changes,” he told OnlineKhabar.

NPL Season 3 runs from 26 October to 21 November at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur. The league stage ends in mid-November. The knockouts are Qualifier 1 on 17 November, the Eliminator on 18 November, Qualifier 2 on 19 November, and the final on 21 November. Singh did not name a date inside that window.

The comments sit alongside a separate, still open ICC process. CAN secretary Paras Khadka said on 8 October that the board has sent the papers needed for written approval of the league and that franchises are waiting on that decision before announcing some overseas players. An ICC board visit would not itself be that approval. Singh said further official information on the meeting would come soon.
