TU Cricket Ground Upgrades Enter Final Stage Ahead of NPL Season 3

October 13, 2026

Work on the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur is in its final phase, with the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) aiming to finish all required work by Dashain, ahead of the third edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL). The tournament is scheduled to run in Kathmandu from Kartik 9 to Mangsir 5.

According to a report on the preparations, CAN is prioritizing the spectator experience this time. Its stated aim is a comfortable setup for spectators, players, journalists, and distinguished guests, and it wants to address the management shortcomings of the previous edition.

The report says the previous edition’s problems included insufficient toilet facilities and dust around the ground. CAN has said improvements are being made so these issues do not recur, and some new structures are being added to improve overall management. Because large crowds are expected, work is also under way to make better use of available space and increase spectator capacity. The stated priority is a smooth experience for ticket holders from entry to exit.

This edition falls between Dashain and Tihar, and there are concerns the festival period could affect attendance. CAN has said the dates were set around the international cricket calendar, other franchise leagues, and the availability of overseas players, and judged the Dashain–Tihar window suitable.

The report adds that participating teams are working to sign well-known international players for the third edition. That is expected to draw more spectators to Kirtipur and raise the tournament’s profile.
