Biratnagar Kings have officially announced the signing of Shehan Jayasuriya for the Nepal Premier League Season 3. The franchise confirmed the move through its official Instagram account with the message "Welcome, Shehan Jayasuriya, to Biratnagar Kings."

Jayasuriya, a 35-year-old left-handed batting all-rounder who bowls right-arm off-break, previously represented Sri Lanka in ODIs and T20Is between 2015 and 2020 before later aligning with the United States. He is already familiar with the NPL environment, having been part of the Biratnagar Kings squad during the 2025 season.

Player Background

Born on 12 September 1991 in Colombo, Sri Lanka, Jayasuriya has built a substantial domestic record as a middle-order batsman and useful off-spinner. He made his T20I debut for Sri Lanka in 2015 and his ODI debut later the same year. Across his Sri Lanka career, he scored 241 runs in 18 T20Is and 195 runs in 12 ODIs, according to career records.

After stepping away from Sri Lanka international cricket, he has continued playing in franchise leagues, including Major League Cricket with the Seattle Orcas, and has represented the United States in recent white-ball cricket. His experience across formats and leagues adds depth to an overseas group that already includes West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell and Sri Lanka’s Charith Asalanka.

Biratnagar Kings in NPL Season 3

The Biratnagar Kings enter the third season of the Nepal Premier League under the captaincy of Nepal’s Sandeep Lamichhane. The side retained a core of domestic players and added high-profile overseas recruits earlier in the build-up to the tournament. They finished among the top sides in the 2025 league stage and reached the playoffs before falling short of the title.

The addition gives Biratnagar Kings another experienced overseas option who has already played in the NPL. Jayasuriya’s ability to contribute with the bat in the middle order and offer part-time off-spin provides the franchise with flexibility in squad balance as the tournament progresses. No further details on his exact role or availability for specific matches have been released by the team at the time of the announcement.
