Sahibzada Farhan Signs for Karnali Yaks in NPL 2026
October 22, 2026
Pakistan’s T20I captain Sahibzada Farhan has been signed by Karnali Yaks for the third season of the Nepal Premier League. Karnali Yaks chairman Grihendra Ghimire confirmed the signing to Online Khabar on 22 October 2026.
Farhan, a 30-year-old right-handed top-order batter, has played six ODIs and 51 T20Is for Pakistan. In T20Is he has scored 1,554 runs at a strike rate of 139.49, including two centuries and 13 half-centuries. Across T20 cricket he has made 5,775 runs in 186 matches, with nine hundred and thirty-eight fifties, and a highest score of 162 not out.
He is arriving after a standout 2026 T20 World Cup campaign in which he finished as the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 383 runs and became the first batter to score two centuries in a single edition of the men’s T20 World Cup. He was recently appointed Pakistan’s full-time T20I captain and has been in strong form, including an 89 in the opening match of the recent series against Sri Lanka.
The signing continues a busy period of overseas recruitment for Karnali Yaks. The franchise had already confirmed Pakistani all-rounder Hussain Talat along with Bangladeshi players Akbar Ali and Ariful Islam. Under ICC sanction for the 2026 season, teams can register up to eight overseas players, though only four can play in the XI.
NPL Season 3 begins on 26 October and concludes on 21 November, with all matches at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur. Karnali Yaks open their campaign on 27 October against Janakpur Bolts. Farhan’s availability will still require a No Objection Certificate from the Pakistan Cricket Board, in line with the league’s rules for all foreign players.
The addition gives the Yaks a proven international opener at a time when they are looking to improve on a sixth-place finish in 2025. Further squad announcements are expected as the franchise finalizes its overseas contingent ahead of the tournament.
