NPL Season 3 Evening Matches Shift to 5:00 PM After DRS Introduction

October 21, 2026

The Cricket Association of Nepal has revised the match timings for Nepal Premier League Season 3, moving all evening fixtures from 4:30 PM to 5:00 PM NPT to accommodate the Decision Review System.

The official NPL account confirmed the change on 20 October 2026, stating that evening starts are now set at 5:00 PM NPT because of the inclusion of DRS, while afternoon fixtures on double-header days remain at 12:30 PM NPT. A statement signed by CAN Secretary Paras Khadka explained that the previously announced schedule had been adjusted specifically to give the technology enough operational time.

On single-match days, including the season opener, play will begin at 5:00 PM. On double-header days the first game starts at 12:30 PM and the second at 5:00 PM. All matches will be played at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur.

The full list of revised fixtures and start times is available on the NPL 2026 Schedule page.

Season 3 runs from 26 October to 21 November 2026. The tournament opens on Monday, 26 October, with defending champions Lumbini Lions facing Sudurpaschim Royals at 5:00 PM. The first double-header follows the next day: Biratnagar Kings versus Chitwan Rhinos at 12:30 PM, then Karnali Yaks against Janakpur Bolts at 5:00 PM.

This is the first time DRS will be used in the Nepal Premier League. Siddhartha Bank has been associated with bringing the system into the competition. Earlier comments from Khadka indicated that reviews could add up to 30 minutes to a match, which is the main reason the evening slot has been pushed back. The later start also aligns with previous discussions about finishing times under lights and the practical effects of cooler evening conditions and dew at Kirtipur.

For fans and broadcasters the practical effect is straightforward. Evening games will now finish later than originally planned, typically pushing the end of play closer to 8:00–8:15 PM on nights when reviews are used. Afternoon matches are unaffected. Ticketing through eSewa and the established broadcast arrangements remain unchanged; only the on-field start times have been updated.

The revised timings take effect immediately for the full competition, covering the 28 league matches and the four playoff games that conclude with the final on 21 November. Teams, umpires, and match officials now have a clear window to incorporate the review process before the opening fixture on 26 October.
