Karnali Yaks Sign South Africa’s David Miller for NPL Season 3
October 24, 2026
Karnali Yaks confirmed the signing of South African left-handed middle-order batter David Miller on Friday, 23 October 2026, adding one of the most experienced T20 finishers in world cricket as the franchise’s sixth overseas player for the third edition of the Nepal Premier League.
The 37-year-old, born on 10 June 1989, joins a growing overseas contingent that already includes Scotland all-rounder Mark Watt (returning from Season 2), Bangladesh batters Akbar Ali and Ariful Islam, Pakistan all-rounder Hussain Talat, and Pakistan T20I captain Sahibzada Farhan. Karnali Yaks chairman Grihendra Ghimire said the move responded directly to supporter expectations.
“Our supporters had high expectations of Karnali Yaks, and we have managed to sign a world-renowned player like David Miller to meet those expectations,” Ghimire said. He recalled the attention generated by the franchise’s Season 1 signing of Shikhar Dhawan and added that the current group of high-profile overseas players should help both the team’s title chances and the wider promotion of Nepal through the league. “Our focus is now on winning the title.
Miller brings a long track record of finishing innings under pressure. He has scored 2,804 runs in 140 T20 Internationals for South Africa, including two centuries and nine half-centuries. Across all T20 cricket, he has accumulated more than 12,400 runs. In the IPL he has played for Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, and Gujarat Titans; he was part of the Titans side that won the 2022 title. He is also remembered for a 35-ball T20I century against Bangladesh in 2017 and a rapid century for Punjab Kings in the IPL.
For Karnali Yaks, the arrival strengthens the middle and lower orders at a time when the side is looking to improve on a sixth-place finish in Season 2. In Season 1 the Yaks reached Qualifier 2. Captain Sompal Kami remains the marquee local player, supported by Nepal internationals Gulshan Jha and Nandan Yadav. Returning overseas spinner Mark Watt scored an unbeaten 114 in Season 2—the highest individual score in NPL history—and finished as the team’s leading run-scorer that year. The combination of Farhan’s top-order form, Talat’s all-round ability, and Miller’s finishing power gives the Yaks a more experienced batting unit than in previous seasons.
The signing continues a pattern of high-profile overseas recruitment across the league as franchises build squads for the third season. Karnali’s next public updates are expected to cover squad confirmation and player arrivals ahead of the opening fixture.
