Heavy Rain at TU Ground Puts Saturday’s NPL Doubleheader in Doubt
October 31, 2026
Persistent rain in Kathmandu has put both Nepal Premier League fixtures for Saturday, 31 October, at risk at the TU International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur. Heavy rain was falling at the ground on Saturday morning, with a 93% chance of precipitation for the day, according to Google weather data. Rain began late on Thursday night and continued through Friday. It persisted into Saturday morning. The two third-edition matches are:
Forecasts differ on the afternoon
Meteorologist Ujjwal Upadhyaya said drizzle was likely to continue until Saturday evening. Myrepublica reported that conditions were forecast to improve later in the afternoon. Google weather data points to a drier week ahead.
What happens if play is lost
The NPL has no reserve days. A match abandoned without a result gives each team one point. At least five overs must be bowled to each side for a result, so a late start can still produce a shortened game. Ticketing partner eSewa said spectators would receive refunds if a match is called off before the toss.
Why the points matter
Lumbini Lions opened their campaign by beating Sudurpaschim Royals by seven wickets, chasing 88 in 9.5 overs. Chitwan Rhinos also arrive with a win in their first game. Sudurpaschim lost that opener to Lumbini but later beat Pokhara Avengers by six wickets. An abandonment would give each side a single point, which could matter in a ten-team table with no reserve days.
