Biratnagar Kings Conduct Floodlit Practice Matches in Uttar Pradesh Ahead of NPL 2026

October 10, 2026

Biratnagar Kings have stepped up preparations for the third edition of the Nepal Premier League with a training camp at the Purvanchal Cricket Academy in Uttar Pradesh, India, that began on 29 September. Most of the squad is taking part, with captain Sandeep Lamichhane absent while he leads the Nepal national team in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 series in Oman. Wicketkeeper-batter Lokesh Bam is due to join the camp from 11 October.

At the academy, the players are combining net sessions with practice matches played under floodlights against Indian cricketers who have featured in the Ranji Trophy. Head coach Dhammika Prasad and spin bowling coach Dinuka Sulakshana are overseeing the camp. Prasad described the work as productive, saying the players were receiving good training and using the practice matches to strengthen their readiness. “Our training in India is going well. The players are getting good training and are preparing themselves for the NPL through practice matches. The training and match practice here have helped the players’ preparation a great deal,” he said, according to reports from Nepali sports outlets.

The camp forms part of Biratnagar Kings’ effort to build on last season’s playoff appearance. The side reached the qualifiers in the previous edition but exited after successive defeats. Prasad, who has been retained as head coach, has previously spoken of the disappointment of that outcome and the team’s determination to improve this year. The franchise has prioritized match practice alongside regular training as it prepares for the upcoming tournament.

The third edition of the NPL is scheduled to run from 26 October to 21 November 2026 at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur. Biratnagar Kings open their campaign on 27 October against Chitwan Rhinos in a 12:30 pm fixture. Their remaining league matches include fixtures against Karnali Yaks, Sudurpaschim Royals, Janakpur Bolts, Kathmandu Gorkhas, Pokhara Avengers, and Lumbini Lions. Full details are available in the NPL 2026 schedule.

The timing of the India camp allows the majority of the domestic core to work under lights and in competitive conditions while Lamichhane completes his national-team commitments. Nepal’s League 2 matches in Oman begin against Canada on 11 October—the same day Bam is expected to arrive. Once the international series concludes, Lamichhane is expected to rejoin the franchise for the final phase of preparation before the NPL starts. The team’s squad and retained players, including Bam and all-rounder Basir Ahamad, form the domestic foundation around which the side will build.
