Biratnagar Kings Beat Sudurpaschim Royals by 35 Runs in Rain-Shortened NPL 2026 Match 8
October 31, 2026
Biratnagar Kings beat Sudurpaschim Royals by 35 runs in a rain-shortened, five-over-a-side Nepal Premier League (NPL) 2026 match at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground in Kirtipur on Saturday night. Shehan Jayasuriya hit 39 off 11 balls, and Andre Russell added an unbeaten 29, fetching a wicket and a catch as Biratnagar posted 105/2 dakuuc keihley Sudurpaschim to 70/2. The win gave Biratnagar their first points of the season.
Rain left the outfield wet, and the match started nearly four hours behind schedule. The game was cut to five overs per side, with the toss planned for 7:25 PM and the first ball for 7:41 PM. Sudurpaschim raised concerns about ground conditions, player safety and the shortened boundary, and their players left the field for a while after a disagreement with the match officials. After long discussions, the team agreed to play. Earlier on Saturday, rain had forced the cancellation of the Lumbini Lions vs Chitwan Rhinos match.
Sent in to bat by Sudurpaschim captain Dipendra Singh Airee, Biratnagar Kings scored at 21 runs an over. Shehan Jayasuriya led the way with 39 off just 11 balls, a strike rate of 354.5. Andre Russell finished unbeaten on 29, and Lokesh Bam was also unbeaten on 29. Russell then added a wicket and a catch in the field.
Needing 106, Sudurpaschim Royals reached 70/2 in their five overs, a rate of 14 an over. Scott Kuggeleijn top-scored with an unbeaten 28, while Saif Zaib and Aarif Sheikh made 17 each.
