NPL 2026: Both Saturday Matches Likely Washed Out as Rain Waterlogs TU Ground
October 31, 2026
Saturday’s two Nepal Premier League matches at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur are unlikely to be played. About 30 hours of continuous rain have left water pooled on the field despite the covers, and an official announcement was still pending.
Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) secretary Paras Khadka said the chances of play are slim, calling the situation a technical matter. By his account, “the chances of the matches taking place are low.” CAN reported that the covers could not be removed to start pitch preparation while rain was still falling and that water draining in from the parapet side had also collected outside the stadium.
The Lumbini Lions vs Chitwan Rhinos match (match page) is due at 12:30 pm. The Sudurpaschim Royals vs Biratnagar Kings match (match page) is due at 5:00 pm.
The NPL has no reserve days, and a match needs at least five overs per side to produce a result. If no play is possible, each team gets one point. Forecasts pointed to some improvement later in the afternoon, but the condition of the outfield remains the main obstacle. Ticketing partner eSewa said spectators would be refunded if a match is called off before the toss.
What a washout would do to the points table. Before Saturday, Lumbini and Chitwan each had one win and two points from one match; Sudurpaschim had two points from two matches; Biratnagar had none from two. If both matches are abandoned, the arithmetic is below. Karnali Yaks lead with four points from two wins.
Next fixtures are taken from the match listing on NPLT20League.com. The full NPL 2026 schedule has the remaining dates. The table is the editor’s calculation from the published points rule, not an official standing. CAN or the NPL is expected to confirm the status of both matches.
